Carmen Hilaly graduated from AUC in 1989, majoring in Mass Communication and minoring in Psychology. She chose to study Mass Communication because it was the easiest major.
She is unemployed and loving it; she first started working in sales for Prime Magazine. She then joined Leo Burnett having many responsibilities, one of which was the Coca-Cola account. Soon after she joined ImpactBBDO and took over the Pepsi-Co account. She then became the media director for Synergy, before finally moving to Mindshare Multinational and coming to the conclusion that she hates the media. She started a restaurant but closed it soon after and is currently starting a marketing company.
She was diagnosed with cancer a year ago and her friends from AUC stood by her years after graduation. She gives credit to AUC for providing her with a strong network of opportunities and being an anchor in her professional life, making her demanded by many companies.
She loved the social life of AUC which was not present in other universities. She ran for SU president and that gave her a much more personal experience. Among the many activities she has experienced in AUC were the Folklore Music Group and starting the SU café that still operates in AUC today.
Her advice to graduates is that they should not be afraid to make mistakes, no to worry about trivial things such as the GPA and instead worry about directing their passion and dedication towards becoming the best at what they do.
