Inas El-Shennawy finished high school in the United States before graduating in 1988 from The School of Mass Communications in the American University in Cairo; she also went on to complete her master’s in 1990. Mass Communication was not her first choice as a major, but after several courses in different majors, she decided she enjoyed Mass Communication most; one of the many reasons was the love she had for writing that was highly regarded by many professors.
She currently works for Al-Arabia News channel and what she enjoys most about her job is always finding out the news before the public and always travelling to attend conferences.
She emphasized on how much the American University in Cairo has helped her in her career since it provided her with enough tools to experience practical work. Along with professor Shleifer she created the TV and Journalism Department. That enabled her and many students to practice being TV journalists in a time when there were none; making it all the much easier to get a job.
Her advice for graduates is that they have to love what they are doing and that it is a “hard job” but with satisfying results. She believes that if someone feels like they are obliged to work then they would fail.
